‘Avatar’ is the new King of the World..
‘Avatar’ Officially Overtakes ‘Titanic’ for Global Box Office Record with $1.85 Billion globally – after only 37 days in theaters. Previous record held predominantly by Titanic with $1.843 Billion also a James Cameron movie.
“We are deeply gratified that so many millions of people around the globe have embraced ‘Avatar,’” Twentieth Century Fox – the studio behind the project — said in a statement on Tuesday. “Its success results from the efforts of literally thousands of people, who, over the course of several years, worked to bring James Cameron’s vision of Pandora to life. The themes of protecting the environment, respecting life, and yearning for a peaceful planet have united moviegoers worldwide. We’re very proud of, and grateful to, James Cameron, his amazing and dedicated team, and all the many people at Fox, who worked so long and so hard to achieve this milestone.”
“Avatar,” which won the Golden Globe for Best Picture, Drama earlier this month, has been number one at the box office for six straight weeks since its release on December 18, 2009.
It also received a Best Picture nomination at the Screen Actors Guild Awards and is expected to do the same when Oscar nominations are annouced on February 2.
Well that’s James Cameron for you.. a man who will give a public a run for their money, a movie that will surely rocks if it’s made by this man(look at Titanic, Alien Series, Terminator and many more).. and this one ‘Avatar’, seen the movie last December, and I can say it’s so awesome.. and by the box office success in it’s 1st week I already know by then that it can break the record of Titanic. Hats off to Avatar and the rest of the gang and of course, the man — James Cameron.

If you adjust according to inflation rate, Gone with the Wind is still number one and I think Avatar is in 20 something.
But recently, Avatar became the first movie to go 2 billion dollars in box office sales around the world and it’s still counting.

want to edit my post……. for the top 5 movie of all-time, top 3 goes to Batman: Dark Knight.. that’s base of Philippine Star that i read.
to valdaros: i also read that article.. base on inflation rate.. as you can see, movie tickets in the past were cheaper than today. but still Avatar, exceed 2 billion dollars around the world.
and that damned cool movie, listed in my top 5 movie of all time.
